Children’s Teacher’s Aide

Location: Columbus, GA | Type: Full-Time | Schedule: Mon–Fri (40 Hours/Week)

The Role

Do you have a heart for children and a desire to help them reach their maximum potential? As a Teacher’s Aide at Easterseals West Georgia, you will play a crucial role in our therapeutic childcare program. Working under the guidance of our Lead Teachers and clinical staff, you will help create a nurturing environment where children with and without special needs can thrive. From leading art projects to assisting with personal care, you are an essential part of the "village" that supports our families.

Key Responsibilities

Classroom & Educational Support

  • Plan Implementation: Assist in carrying out Individual Service Plans (ISP) and Plans of Care (POC) as directed by the Lead Teacher and therapists.

  • Activity Engagement: Lead curriculum-appropriate experiences in art, music, literature, science, and math using a variety of hands-on materials.

  • Nutritional Guidance: Help children develop healthy eating habits and assist with mealtime routines.

Participant Care & Safety

  • Safety & Supervision: Maintain constant supervision of children at all times—both indoors and outdoors—adhering to strict safety standards.

  • Personal Care: Provide compassionate assistance with personal care, including feeding, grooming, and toileting.

  • Observation: Actively monitor children and notify the Lead Teacher or Director of any changes in a child’s appearance or behavior.

  • Welcoming Environment: Greet parents and visitors warmly to maintain our signature ESWG family-friendly atmosphere.

Professional Excellence

  • Documentation: Assist with maintaining participant records and tracking developmental goals.

  • Facility Care: Help keep classrooms and outdoor play areas clean, neat, and organized.

  • Safety Reporting: Immediately report any signs of neglect or abuse to the Administrative Team.

  • Growth: Complete 20+ hours of annual training and maintain current First Aid and CPR certifications.

Qualifications

  • Education: High School Diploma or GED (Required).

  • Experience: Previous experience working with children or adults in a childcare, educational, or rehabilitation setting (Preferred).

  • Communication: Ability to communicate clearly with staff and parents and follow complex instructions.

  • Physicality: Ability to work in an outdoor environment in various weather conditions.

  • Compliance: Must obtain a fingerprint criminal background check clearance.
